White magnesite is often matte and chalky in its original state with a dark thread of veins or a web-like matrix across its surface. It was once a trade currency in indiginous communities like the Pomo of California. It is a deeply calming stone, assiting "no-mind" meditation and relaxation of busy energy. It is somewhere between 3.5-4.5 on the Mohs scale, which makes the stone easy to carve, but fairly brittle.
